Utah Energy Uranium Exploration - Marcy
Look Project

Proposed

The Manti-La Sal National Forest, Moab/Monticello Ranger District, proposes to authorize Utah Energy Corporation to drill up to 76 exploration holes in their Marcy Look project area. The area is located on unpatented mining claims on Elk Ridge

Sunroc Corporation Chicken Creek Gypsum Mine

Proposed

Sunroc has submitted a Plan of Operations for the Chicken Creek Gypsum Mine on their locatable mining claims. The Forest Service must evaluate the Plan and decide whether or not additional mitigations are needed to protect non-mineral resources

Note One: These projects allow mining corporations to explore for valuable minerals. The exploration is always approved by the Forest Service. For these exploration projects the acreage of the mine is not given, nor the number of trees impacted.

Note Two: In these records, the Forest Service does not distinguish between a small, sustainable projects by hobbyists and massive destructive projects that demolish tens of thousands mature trees, leaving barren waste piles and pits a mile in diameter and over 1,000 feet deep.
